WMAA Traditions & Areas of Emphasis

• Our 1st Founders Day was held at Pandora’s Tea House in Midway in 2007.  Since then, we have continued our tradition of a Tea to celebrate Founders Day by holding our celebration at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

• We have participated in the Holiday Sharing Program for 2008, 2009, 2010,  2011 and 2013.  We added Phase II of Holiday Sharing to our goals in 2011. We supported four elderly Kappas from an area with no association with some extra TLC in the form of notes, cards, and small gifts. We continued both phases in 2013.  We now have five women from St. George and Ogden that we continue to remember on holidays and Founders Day.

• We encourage our members to purchase their magazine subscriptions through National Community Services which replaced the Rose McGill Magazine Agency.  The funds from this still support the philanthropic efforts of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

• We have actively supported local philanthropies such as the Peace House, Strut your Mutt, food pantry, and book drives.

• We purchased books in the spring of 2012 which we read to a class of 4th graders at a local elementary school. Each student was able to select two books to take home and keep. The remaining books were donated to the school library.

• In the spring of 2013, the Association purchased over 100 books, some especially for bilingual students, and donated them through Eliza’s Library to local medical clinics and the local library.

• In the spring of 2012 and 2013 we made Kappa Kare Bags for the women of the Delta Eta Chapter at the University of Utah with goodies and supplies to help them study for final  exams.  We solicited the parents and offered them the opportunity to purchase a bag for their “Kappa” and included a personal note.  Two very large bags with the same items were provided for the chapter as a whole.  They have been very successful fundraisers and have provided evenings of fun as we put the bags together.

•  In 2013 we continued to support the Delta Eta chapter by purchasing some much needed initiation items, some drinks for the chapter during recruitment, and packets o hot drinks, fresh fruit, and healthy study treats for the chapter at the end of Fall Semester.
